The challenge was daunting, but Brian Holtz knew he could make it happen.

Holtz, an area manager for Rust-Oleum, was tasked with coating 14,000 square feet of floor space in a paint and hardware store located in the heart of Chicago’s business district.

“The owner told us we had one day to complete this job,” Holtz said. “I knew we had the right people and the right product to get it done but were definitely working against the clock.”

The business, JC Licht True Value, had just moved from its 2,220 square foot store into a space more than six times larger. With that big of a footprint, the floor became one of the main visual elements.

“They wanted that industrial look,” Holtz said. “They were looking for nice contrast with warm tones. We went with with two coats of Poly Shell 7000 Gloss Clear direct to the concrete.” Holtz said Poly Shell’s quick -drying time made the 24-hour job possible. “We laid down the first coat in the morning, went to lunch, and came back and did the second coat in the afternoon,” he said. “That’s the beauty of that product—how fast it dries.”

Crews worked a few days in advance to prepare the concrete substrate before Holtz and team laid down the coating. “We had eight guys working on this job,” Holtz said. “It also served as a training for a few of the applicators. They really liked how easily the product went on.”
